By morgan eli. | March 31, 2008
thank you.
to everyone who’s ever been involved with emmaus in any way.
the past 2 years of my life have been filled with ups and downs; depression, struggles in my spiritual life, family issues, self esteem problems, health problems, and well i could go on for a while, but through it all you have been my support system.
you’ve been my family.
so thank you. for the fond memories, the helping hands, the unconditional love, the open ears, the discussions about Christ, the songs, the prayers, the many new friendships, and the joy you’ve given me.
words cannot express how much i love each and every one of you.

My Emmaus 3.0 Memories.
By Jaime Antoninka | March 31, 2008
The first time I was ever at Emmaus was shortly after everyone had moved in. I didn’t get to be around too much because of the craziness of my schedule, but I do appreciate the memories I have from the people I encountered there.
I had been to Emmaus a few times with Bekah a little while after everyone had moved in, but had never gone on my own. This brings me to my first memorable 3.0 memory. I had gotten out of my night class early and didn’t feel like heading home, so I decided to go to Emmaus. I walked in through the kitchen and into the cafe area. The whole place was dark, but there was loud music playing, and I could see people dancing around. It was Tara having a random dance party. So, I joined in and danced with people I didn’t even know, but yet it felt so comfortable.
I didn’t get to be around Emmaus much over the past year and some odd months, but I do love everything I have experienced there. I met so many amazingly talented and awesome new friends, and had so many good times.
Lets make them continue on…

Jan Newsletter
By Ryan | January 30, 2008
Greetings *|FNAME|*.
Well, you may have heard the rumors; emmaus is moving out of its building (emmaus 3.0 as we call it).
These rumors are true. We are moving out of 49 York St.
Emmaus will look very different in the future. While it may not be as formal or program driven the relationships will live on forever. Emmaus has been about connecting people and building the Kingdom since the beginning. That is an aspect to emmaus that will live on.
Please Help!
Thrift Store
Two problems face us. We have some bills to keep current and a few reasonable debts to pay. We also have a ton of stuff. Fortunately we have a thrift store that can solve both of those problems. We can make money as we move items out! The sales are going to get crazy! Right now we have a $5 bag sale. Fill up a bag with books, clothes, and shoes for $5. In a few weeks everything will be $1 or less.
Please help us by
- shopping the thrift store.
- telling your friends
- telling your friends
- shopping the thrift store
- oh and telling your friends.
Help us by printing the poster at the bottom of this email and handing it out at school, church bulletins, restaurants.
I can’t stress how important the thrift store is right now. After March 15 have no way to make income.
“Help Emmaus Saturdays”
If Emmaus has ever meant anything to you. Please give back by helping us move out. There can’t be enough help! It doesn’t have to be drudgery. As a matter of fact it feels good to get stuff done and be together doing it.
The first “help Emmaus Saturday” is Feburary 16 then every Saturday until March 29.
The Venue
Things might be slowing down, but we still have some great shows lined up! But these shows take help.
In the venue each show there are several positions that need filled. They include: door person, sound person, making food for the bands, purchasing soda/water to sell, and running cafe.
Please help at one of these shows if you can.
Emmaus is a community first. Feel free to stop by any time and hang out. Also, let us know if you need anything or how we can serve you.
Keep on!
Ryan Kudasik
Director of Emmaus

If You Don’t Get It, Don’t Sing.
By Will Lemmers | January 16, 2008
This is a blog that I posted many moons ago, on myspace. I’ve finally decided to post it, anew, here at Emmaus:
Tonight the choir was practicing a song that is still somewhat new to us. At one part, some of us were unsure what note to sing. (Not all of us read musical notation). The choir leader said, “If you don’t get it, don’t sing; just listen.”
It made me think about how, in life, none of us always has the answer. And it is valuable to know when to shut up and listen. I believe that it is possible to know the truth. That is to say, I believe in absolutes. But we don’t just know everything. Truth is something that is learned. Learning is a process that never ends.
One thing that I have learned is that, while I believe certain things to be wrong, I ought to listen to other points of view. It may be that there is some truth to what is said. And at any rate, even if I am sure that a particular idea is wrong, I might be able to think of a more intelligent reply if I shut up and listen first.
I didn’t write the notes on the music sheet of truth. I am still learning the song. So are you. That is why I don’t like listening to, or participating in, a lot of heated debates. Debates sound stupid sometimes. They sound stupid because neither party has it all figured out. We are all fellow students, nothing more.

Faces of Emmaus
By emmaus | January 14, 2008
The time is here to create a yearbook in honor of the people, memories, and inanimate objects of emmaus history. A few of us started comprising a list of the people involved with emmaus since it’s beginnings. We know there are many people we missed. Look over this list and comment the names we forgot and the time they showed up: 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0. (3.0 is the building we are currently in). Also comment if someone has been placed in the wrong version of emmaus or if you know the correct spellage of a name (I know many are spelled wrong)
For now we just want names, but soon the requests for your photos and favorite memories will be posted. check back. Okay, here we go…

The Divine Artist
By Will Lemmers | December 24, 2007
In 1st John, it is written that whoever is truly in Christ will:
-Walk as Christ walked
-Love everyone
-Not sin
-Practice righteousness
But in the same epistle, it is written that “if we say we have no sin, we make Him a liar.” Also “if any one sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous.”
John, under the inspiration of the Divine Artist, does not go out of his way to explain the paradox. He leaves the reader to figure it out. There are various ways that a reader may interpret the teaching. She may interpret it as a contradiction and stop believing the Bible. Or one may say that it means if you slip up here and there in your practice of righteousness, than that is not what John means when he says “whoever sins is not of God.” God will forgive the isolated incident. Still others may say it means that while we practice righteousness, we have not perfected it. We struggle as we practice the teachings and example of Jesus Christ the righteous. But as long as we’re honestly practicing, we can be confident that we are in God. Then the question becomes; “How good do we have to be to know that we are in God? How bad does one have to be in order to be disqualified?”
See, the Bible doesn’t have a dumbed down explanation for everything it says. That is because, for one thing, if something is worth studying and learning then it is worth grappling with the hard questions in the study. Oh yes, there will be questions; painfully hard questions. Everything is not a simplified math equation. The truth is not a science, it is an art.

2nd Peter
By Will Lemmers | December 22, 2007
Recently my Bible was vandalized. Someone used a marker to write obscenities against God in it. I was very upset. It was a really nice Nelson Study Bible. But my younger brother, Andrew, had a copy exactly like it that he had left unused in favor of another Bible. So he gave me his like-new Nelson Study Bible. Anyway, I decided to read 2nd Peter today. I found it very sobering. I was confronted, and I found myself wanting to improve.

good song (the chorus)
By blu | December 2, 2007
Man to man
Tell me the truth, tell me
Were you ever there when she needed you
Man to man
Look me in the eye, tell me
If you really loved her
Why’d you make her cry
Man to man
Who cheated who
You’re the one to blame
Tell me it ain’t true
Man to man
Man to man
